In January 2012 the folks at Xiaomi officially announced the Redmi 2 mid-ranger. The China-based phone maker released the smartphone on the market later the same month.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 packs a 720p 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen with 312 ppi pixel density which is protected against scratches by a Gorilla Glass 2 layer. The phone measures 134 x 67.2 x 9.4 mm and weighs in at 133 grams.
The device comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4.4 KitKat, of course, customized with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6.0 skin. Under the hood, there’s a quad-core 1.3 GHz Snapdragon 410 processor with Adreno 306 GPU. The phone is available in two variants: 8 GB storage and 1 GB of RAM or 16 GB storage and 2 GB RAM. Both models arrive with support for microSD cards up to 32 GB.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 is equipped with an 8 MP primary shooter with autofocus, LED flash, 1.4 µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, and Full HD video recording support, plus a 2 MP secondary camera capable of recording 720p videos.
The connectivity features of the handset include HSPA, LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, FM radio, and microUSB 2.0. Xiaomi Redmi 2 is available in five body colors: Black, White, Yellow, Pink, and Green.
