The official Android 7.1.1 official update is now rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro.

This brand new update is being rolled out over-the-air for all Indian C9 Pro users, but you can use the ODIN tool to manually install the latest Nougat firmware files. Since these updates are released in stages, it means that not everyone will get the update at the same time.

If you are running a custom ROM on your and you wish to restore it to stock Android firmware, then this is the guide you have to follow. Read the following guidelines before starting the update:

  • use this guide only for the India Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro devices.
    - the model of your device has to be the C9 Pro C900F one.
    - don't try to update any other devices with the files found in this post.
  • download and install the Samsung USB drivers from here on your PC.
  • for the update process you will have to use the ODIN app, and for Odin to work you have to install the above usb drivers and to make sure that you will enable USB Debugging from Developer Options menu.
    - if Developer Options is hidden, then you will have to enable that first: go to Settings> About Device> Software Info and tap seven times on the number text.
    - return to Settings, find Developer Options and enable USB Debugging.
  • you can install the new update over rooted firmware, but you need to know that root access won't survive the update.
  • Android 7.1.1 update can be flashed over custom ROMs, but you should know that a Factory Reset process has to be applied after the update is done installing.
    - the Factory Reset process will wipe clean system partition, while it leaves the other internal storage files unchanged.
    - Factory Reset steps are listed at the end of the tutorial.
  • if your phone runs 100% stock Android firmware, then you can continue to the next part of this post, as no data will be removed from the phone.
  • read the whole post and don't skip any steps.
  • this guide has to be applied by advanced users, we cannot be blamed in case you brick the phone nor in case you lose any data files in the process.

If the FAIL message is shown by ODIN, but your phone enters in a boot loop, then you will have to repeat the whole tutorial more than once. If you repeat installation you have to make sure that your phone meets all requirements and that you won't skip any steps.

If the PASS alert is shown by ODIN, but the Galaxy C9 Pro phone enters in a boot loop, or it gets stuck at the boot animation screen for more than 20 minutes, then you have to Factory Reset the phone.

The Factory Reset process should be applied in case you have installed the update over a custom ROM, too.

Here's how to Factory Reset the device from Recovery Mode:

  • power off the phone.
  • boot it in Recovery Mode: press and hold Volume Up+ Home + Power buttons until the boot is complete.
  • select 'wipe data/ factory reset'.
  • confirm.
  • reboot phone in normal mode and you're done.
