The recently released OnePlus 6T just arrived to our team and we’ve tried almost everything that we could in terms of basic Android operations and tweaks, just for being able to explain these processes in detail so that you can afterwards choose to do it by yourselves. Well, in that respect today we will be discussing about the methods in which a hard reset can be successfully completed on the new OnePlus 6T.

As you can already tell, since this new device is sharing an almost identical hardware and software platform with the OnePlus 6, completing basic Android procedures aren’t such a big challenge. In fact, if you used to own the OnePlus 6 now you will know how to complete most of these operations without having to follow dedicated tutorials – here we talk about regular operations, basic ones such as reaching recovery mode, applying updates, going to download mode, accessing fastboot mode and even initiating a hard reset.

Anyhow, even though the hard reset might be an intuitive process, we still decided to detail the steps that must be followed in order to safely complete this full wipe on your own OnePlus 6T. Yes, the hard reset is describing a wiping operation which means that you will partially restore your device back to its factory state. And this aspect can be used in your own advantage as we will see during the following guidelines.

Right from the start you have to know that the hard reset can refresh the Android system. So, if during time you feel that your OnePlus 6T is running slower than it used to, go ahead and perform a hard reset and you will be surprised by the results.

A full wipe means that in the end you will be able to use only bloatware and other pre-loaded features and apps. Third party tools and personal data will be erased. So, this process can come in handy if you want to sell your smartphone to a strange person and you don’t want to share your personal files with other persons.

Moreover, with the hard reset you can get rid of malicious apps, inappropriate tools, unresponsive programs or even malware. Therefore, you can use this basic Android operation as a dedicated troubleshooting solution for being able to fix general Android related issues that can cause severe malfunctions on your OnePlus 6T – we’re talking about problems such as boot loops, lags, hangs, screen freeze, battery drain, heating problems, signal strength issues, total blackouts and similar other software glitches.

And, in other situations you will have to complete a hard reset before starting custom operations. For example, if you want to update your OnePlus 6T with a custom ROM firmware (like Lineage OS, AOKP or Paranoid Android) you must wipe everything first as otherwise the new software will not be able to run properly.

Anyway, as it should be already obvious, a backup shouldn’t be optional in this situation. Since everything that wasn’t there from day one will be erased, you should take a few moments from your time and perform a general backup. Only in this way you can protect your personal data, info, accounts and files along with everything else that might be still required afterwards: contacts, call logs, texts, images, videos, audio files, market apps, internet settings, calendar info, saved passwords, EFS folder or IMEI / NVRAM data. The backup can be quickly applied and it can be completed in different ways: you can use the OnePlus built-in cloud storage apps, you can use an external storage device, you can sync different files with your Google Account, or you can download and use backup and restore apps available on Google Play.

Verify the power level on your OnePlus 6T. Do consider to charge your smartphone before starting the hard reset for avoiding unexpected problems. For example, if a sudden shut down happens while the hard reset is performed you can end up in soft bricking your Android device. Therefore, check the power that’s left and if that value is lower than 50%, plug in the charger before doing anything else.
