After the leaked renders of the Moto Z and the Moto Z Play, a new alleged render of the Moto Z Droid Edition has surfaced online, revealing three different color options. The leaked render comes courtesy of famed smartphone leakster Evan Blass, who also happened to be the source of a previous leak that detailed the key features and specifications of the upcoming Moto Z duo and the Moto Z Droid Edition.
Unlike the previous set of renders, this time the render only shows the back of the handset and not the front or the sides. As we saw with the first set of leaked renders, the back of the Moto Z Droid Edition doesn’t appear to be very different from that of the Moto Z and the Moto Z Play. Unlike the last year’s lineup, it looks like Motorola is going for a “family look” this time, with all three models sporting a near identical design.
This year, Motorola is apparently going to go drop the “Turbo” branding for its Verizon-exclusive variant of the Moto Z. Instead of being called the Droid Turbo 3, the handset is expected to be marketed as the Moto Z Droid Edition or something similar. As for the specifications, the Moto Z Droid Edition is likely to be very similar to the Moto Z. That means we can expect it to feature a 5.5-inch Quad HD resolution AMOLED display and pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset under the hood. Rest of the specifications could include 4GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, 16MP primary camera with laser auto focus and phase detection autofocus technologies, 2600mAh capacity battery, and a razor-thin profile. However, the Moto Z Droid Edition isn’t likely to be launched around the same time as the Moto Z and the Moto Z Play. Instead, the handset could be launched a few weeks later, most likely by the end of the third quarter.
