Nextbit had recently revealed that it plans to bring the cloud-focused Robin to the Indian market soon. It now appears all the legal formalities have been taken care of, as the company has sent out invites for a media event on May 25. The star of the show will no doubt be the Robin, world’s first cloud-focused smartphone. Previously, the company was hoping to launch the handset in the Indian market by the end of April. However, due to some delays in acquitting regulatory approvals, the launch had to be delayed.
The Nextbit Robin features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top. Powering the handset is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808, a hexa-core 64-bit chipset with the Adreno 418 GPU. Complementing the chipset is 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard memory. In addition to the onboard memory, the smartphone also offers 100GB of free online cloud storage.
In the imaging department, the Nextbit Robin is quite impressive with a capable 13MP camera at the back which features phase detection auto focus and come with a dual-tone LED flash. For selfies, you get a 5MP front-facing camera. Connectivity wise, the Robin supports almost all the modern standards that you expect on a modern flagship smartphone. These include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, USB Type C, NFC, 4G LTE, and a fingerprint ID sensor. The battery inside is a 2680mAh unit with support for the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging standard. One of the other cool features of the smartphone is that it comes with dual front-facing stereo speakers, complete with dual amplifiers.
In the US, the smartphone is available for $399, so it is being speculated that the smartphone could be launched around the Rs.30000 mark in the Indian market. It will ship with the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system out of the box when it goes on sale in the country.
