The Android core system can be access, on the LG G7, in different ways, depending on the results you want to achieve. For example, as we have noticed during another similar tutorial, the download mode is needed when updates are involved. Well, today we will discuss about the fastboot mode and about the reasons why this environment might be needed on your smartphone. Also, during the following lines we will discuss about the advantages of using fastboot mode, about the risks that might be considered and about the pre-requisites that must be first applied. Of course, in the end, we will describe the steps that will help you reboot your LG G7 into fastboot mode.

Fastboot mode is similar with download mode as both are putting the LG G7 into a special environment through which the default Android OS can be accessed and further modified. But, unlike download mode when we talked about update operations, on fastboot mode you can apply more complex procedures which are including tweaks and customizations that can help you improve the overall Android experience and the general LG G7 performance.

In that respect you should know that the fastboot mode will be required when you will have to change something that’s there by default. For example, this environment is needed when you have to unlock the LG G7 bootloader, or when you want to flash a custom recovery image. Moreover, the same mode must be accessed during other tweaking procedures such as removing bloatware, adding apps from other sources than Google Play or gaining root access.

Even though from fastboot mode you can initiate custom operations, getting into this mode is an official process supported by your OEM – the fastboot mode is featured by default on your LG G7 so you can anytime access it. However, the mode is hidden by default, just as a precaution measure so you cannot enter it from built-in settings. Instead, dedicated reboot sequences must be followed – don’t worry, everything is being detailed below.

The best is that going into fastboot mode can be done without using risky programs or third party tools. Also, it can be done even if your smartphone was unlocked or tweaked in who knows what way. The steps from below describes a general reboot process that can bring fastboot mode on the LG G7 regardless of the state in which your handset is found in a certain moment.

Anyway, some precaution measures must be taken. If you are planning to use this environment for applying further tweaks, then a good idea will be to initiate a backup on your LG G7 – otherwise, you can end up in losing your contacts, call logs, texts, images, videos, audio files, market apps, internet settings, calendar info, EFS folder, IMEI / NVRAM data and similar other packages. Don’t worry, you can easily use cloud storage apps that are already running on your phone or you can choose to sync certain files with your Google Account – another way in which you can secure stuffs is by using dedicated backup and restore apps from Google Play (in that case make sure you get only already tested platforms).

It’s important to verify the power that’s left on your LG G7 before using fastboot mode while completing custom operations. If the power is low, the Android system can get turned off right while you tweak your device and in that case you can easily end up in soft-bricking your smartphone. So, for avoiding such situations you should first charge your device – do that especially if the power that’s left is currently lower than 50%.

Reboot Fastboot Mode on LG G7

First solution

  1. Completely turn off your handset – just press and hold the Power button for a while, or press the Power button once and select ‘power off’.
  2. A computer and your phone’s USB cable will be needed during the next steps.
  3. Connect one side of the USB cable on your computer; the other side should remain free for now.
  4. On your smartphone press and hold the Volume Down button.
  5. While holding down Volume Button, plug in the USB cable into your phone.
  6. Once the connection between your devices will be established the fastboot mode should be displayed.
  7. At that point you can release the Volume Down key.
  8. That’s all.

Second method

This second method will work only if a computer or notebook can be used. On that PC you first have to install Android SDK; so if you’re using Windows, use this tutorial and if you’re using MAC OS X / Linux use this guide instead. On the same PC the G7 drivers must be flashed before doing anything else. Also, on your smartphone you have to gain Developer rights which can be done by tapping repeatedly on Built Number; this field is located under About Phone and by tapping on it for 7 or 10 times you can enable Developer Options. Next, from Menu - > Settings - > Developer Options you have to check the USB Debugging field. Finally, you just have to follow:

  1. First, open your computer and power on your phone.
  2. Next, connect your devices – use your phone’s USB cable for establishing this connection.
  3. Then, on your computer access the Android SDK folder.
  4. A command prompt window must be opened from that place.
  5. In order to do that you have to: press and hold the Shift keyboard key and right click on any blank space inside the Android SDK folder; then from the options that appear choose ‘open command prompt window here’.
  6. Now, in this cmd window type ‘adb reboot fastboot’ and press Enter.
  7. The fastboot mode should be automatically rebooted on your LG G7.

Third option

Fastboot mode can be accessed by using a dedicated app from Google Play too. You can choose from different third-party solutions, though be careful as some of these apps might require root access to work properly. For example, you can use the Quick Boot tool – download, install and run the app on your phone and then follow on-screen prompts in order to reach the desired mode.
