  2. Save the update package on desktop; then run the Odin executable file and just follow on-screen prompts in order to set up the flashing program on your computer.
  3. Remember that your phone’s drivers must be already installed on your PC.
  4. Run the flashing program on your computer.
  5. Afterwards, reboot download mode on your Galaxy S7: switch off your phone and then press and hold the Power, Volume Down and Home buttons at the same time.
  6. Connect your phone with your computer with the help of the USB cable – at this point Odin should recognize your device: the ‘added’ message should be displayed and the ID:COM field should be turned yellow or blue.

  9. When asked make sure that the Re Partition and Auto Reboot options aren’t selected.
  10. Click on Start when you want to initiate the update operation – everything will be automatically completed by Odin.
  11. In the end the ‘pass’ message will be displayed and the ID:COM field will be turned green; at that point you can close Odin and remove the USB cable. You should also reboot your Galaxy S7.

Things that can go wrong and troubleshooting solutions to apply

The most common issues that might happen are related with the flashing program – it might get stuck right in the middle of the update process. Well, if that happens, don’t worry as it’s not the end of the world and your device can still run without problems. However, you have to follow: close Odin on your computer along with its associated processes (the easiest way in which you can do that is by using Task Manager: press the Ctrl+Alt+Del keyboard hotkeys); then, disconnect your smartphone from your computer; also force-restart your Samsung Galaxy S7; reinstall your phone’s drivers on your computer; and in the end repeat the flashing steps that were described and detailed above.

Another thing that can go wrong is related with the last reboot that must be completed. It will take longer than a regular reboot, but in the end you should be able to use the new OS on your device without problems. However, a boot loop might happen while this reboot is completed. And, in that case you have to follow: enter recovery mode on your Samsung Galaxy S7 (press and hold the Power, Volume Up and Home buttons together until the recovery mode menu shows up); in recovery choose to make a hard reset and to clear app data cache – select ‘wipe data factory reset’ followed by ‘wipe cache partition’ and by ‘wipe dalvik cache’; when done, return to main menu of recovery and pick ‘reboot system now’. Everything should run without problems now.

If other software related issues are experienced you can try to fix them by using the Android Safe Mode or by downgrading your device to a previous version of Android OS (also by using Odin, just as showed above).
