The official Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update for Galaxy S3 on Sprint U.S has emerged today. Expect the update roll out to reach your device in the next few hours.
If you're based in the United States and you own a Sprint Galaxy S3, then you should keep an eye on your smartphone's notification bar for new update alerts. If a new file is available then you should simply hit the download button and then confirm installation. After the download is complete the phone will reboot and then the new files will be flashed automatically.
Android 4.4.2 KitKat is a step up from the precious Android version that was currently running on all the Sprint Galaxy S3 models sold in the U.S. until now. The new KitKat build has the L710VPUCND8 firmware version and it brings the white status bar icons, full-screen immersive Android experience for numerous applications, better multitasking via multi-window function, bug fixes and a redesigned user interface. There are tons of other small changes and tweaks done to the overall OS, so that your SGS3 device will run smoother and faster than before.
Also, along with the changes added to the overall UI, Samsung has worked to improve the battery life of Samsung Galaxy S3. Android 4.4.2 KitKat should offer from now on the possibility to browse the web, listen to music, play games for a longer time that you did previously with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The Sprint Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is rolled out in stages in the United States starting today, and you shouldn't panic if the update doesn't reach your device today nor in the next few days. Also, if the notification fails to arrive on your device then you should try to check for new firmware files by going to 'About Phone' section, open 'Software Updates' menu and check for new Android 4.4.2 KitKat files.
Note that the new KitKat update will not be available for devices that are running custom ROMs.
