The Coolpad Note 3 Lite is not the best Android based smartphone that you can buy, but its performance are still good enough for the most common tasks which an average user will perform on a daily basis. However, if you already own the Note 3 Lite but you want to upgrade the performance and fix the overall errors or bugs I have something that might be on your taste – updating your phone to Android Nougat with the help of the Lineage OS 14.1 custom ROM firmware.
A custom ROM, and in particular the new Lineage OS, will ensure a better Android experience on your Coolpad Note 3 Lite. The performance will be improved, the speeds bumped and the Android core system optimized and customized for providing better results regarding the tasks you will choose to perform on your smartphone. Additionally, you will be able to use a dedicated UI that is different from the stock Coolpad Note 3 Lite OS.
The Lineage OS is light and fast and bloatware-free. The firmware is based on the latest Android Nougat system and pre-loaded with all the latest features, apps and capabilities. Moreover, since it is a custom ROM, the firmware will be coming with different features which cannot be downloaded from the default Nougat platform. Therefore, with this ROM installed your handset will run better and faster while you will be able to enjoy a better battery life – yes, the firmware also addresses the battery issues and the GPS problems reported by the Coolpad Note 3 Lite users.
Lineage OS 14.1 is based on the CyanogenMod platform and is powered by Android Nougat OS. However, it is not an official firmware released for your device. The ROM is offered by third party devs who optimized and customized the stock Android firmware in order to be compatible with your phone. So, this is going to be an unofficial update operation that can’t be associated with your OEM or with Google.
That’s why you will lose your phone’s warranty during the Android Nougat update operation. Also, that’s why you should be careful when applying all the steps from below – if you mess things up you will be by yourself: taking your Coolpad Note 3 Lite back to service will imply in paying for the technical assistance.
A custom ROM can be flashed only manually and only after completing some additional tasks. In that respect you should now that for being able to install Lineage OS and update to Android Nougat OS you will first have to root your Coolpad Note 3 Lite – with root you will unlock, and therefore prepare, the internal Android system that powers your smartphone. Moreover, a custom recovery image must be installed on your phone – I recommend you to flash the latest version of TWRP or CWM recovery (with this custom recovery image you will resume the actual steps from down below).
A Nandroid backup is also required at this point – this process can be completed through the custom recovery image too. By making this dedicated backup operation you can save the current Android OS that runs on your smartphone. So, after installing the Lineage OS you will want to go back to stock you will be able to easily do so by using the very same Nandroid backup package.
After saving the Android system you should also secure your personal data, info and accounts because the Lineage OS flashing process will wipe the internal storage system of your Coolpad Note 3 Lite. So, secure everything that you might have to use afterwards by using built-in cloud storage platforms, by syncing your data with your Google account or by downloading similar backup and restore tools from Google Play (make sure you download only tested apps in order to make things work without any problems).
You can complete the steps from below only if you use a computer – there you will save the required files. On your phone you must enable Developer Options (tap repeatedly on Built Number) as from Menu – > Settings – > Developer Options you then have to check the USB Debugging field.
You must charge your Coolpad Note 3 Lite for ensuring enough power for the Android Nougat update process. If you don’t charge your device it might get turned off right while you flash the Lineage OS firmware. Avoid such situation as you can end up in soft bricking your smartphone – malfunctions can be caused within the Android core system if your phone gets switched off while the update operation is still running.
Of course, apply the lines from below only if you own the Coolpad Note 3 Lite. The Lineage OS which is offered below is compatible only with the already mentioned smartphone.
