I’m bringing good news for the Droid Pro users as recently Motorola released an OS update for their smartphones. Since it is coming straight from Motorola this firmware version is the official one, so fortunately you don’t have to deal with custom ROMs, or beta software. This means that by installing the update, the warranty will not be void. Furthermore, applying the update should only take a couple of minutes; you will be able to resume your activity in the shortest time possible.

The OS update is not Ice Cream Sandwich as many of you might think, due to the numerous versions available lately on the web, Gingerbread with its 2.3 version being all you can get. The upgrade is known also as 4.7.3.XT610 and it’s coming with important features and bug fixes in its system. But we will discuss about this a little bit later. Now, during this tutorial I will explain the easiest way in which you can update the Motorola Droid Pro by installing the official Gingerbread 2.3 4.7.3.XT610 firmware, all being detailed in the steps from below.

You must follow this how to guide if you want to avoid the unpleasant situations that might appear or if you want to be sure that you do it as it should. In our recent posts we have showed you other similar guides, so you can rely on our experience. Make sure you read all my directions and there shouldn’t be any issues. The procedure is 100% safe; you have nothing to worry about.

The Droid Pro was released by Motorola way back in 2010, but it is still a decent smartphone. Its specs managed to keep this phone “alive” though since its launch many other powerful devices were developed. It features a full QWERTY keyboard and under the hood it has a 1GHz processor, a 5 MP rear facing camera and 512 MB of RAM memory. The Android 2.2 was pre-installed, so the OS is a little bit outdated. But, with the release of this Gingerbread 4.7.3.XT610 update, you can improve the performances, by powering up its internal system. As already stated, there will be added important features and capabilities; you can take a look over these enhancements by checking the image from below:

As a final note, if the phone was previously rooted then once the update is installed you will have to root it again by following a tutorial designed to work for the new OS, in this case the Gingerbread. Now, before we begin detailing the proper guide, there are some operations that must be completed. First, you need to have access to a Windows / Linux / MAC computer. Then, of course you must have the Droid Pro near you along with its USB cord. Furthermore, read and complete the following tasks:

  • Backup the data from your device. In this way you can save all that is stored on the phone and you will not lose your personal data.
  • Enable the USB debugging in your Motorola Droid Pro. This can be achieved by only checking something in the phone's settings: “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging”. The USB debugging can be enabled only when the smartphone is disconnected from the computer.
  • The antivirus tools located on the PC or on the handset must be deactivated. If not, you can't do anything.
  • The battery power must be at least 60%; charge it if different.

As soon as you manage to do the above all you will be able to start the guide.

Update Motorola Droid Pro with Official Gingerbread 2.3 4.7.3.XT610 Firmware

First off all, being the official version, the update can be applied easier than the other custom ROMs, or beta variants. Anyway, there are two methods in which you can install the Gingerbread OS. I have explained both of them, so choose the one that is on your taste.

OTA (Over the air) user initiate

  1. Go on the phone Home screen.
  2. Then, from there press the “menu” key and then follow: "Settings -> about phone -> System Updates -> Download". Make sure that the Internet connection is turned on and also working.
  3. Next, on the display you will see a message showing you the update available for download.
  4. Select the “Install now” option and follow the prompts.
  5. During the process the phone might be turned off. Don’t worry it’s not something wrong.
  6. In the end, a message will be displayed saying that the update was successfully installed; click “ok”.

OTA Server initiated

  1. This is the obvious method. For this you need to have the Internet connection activated on your Droid Pro handset.
  2. You will be able to see when the update is available for download. A prompt will be flashed right on your mobile screen.
  3. Just tap on “download”.
  4. Then, on the window that opens tap on “install now”.
  5. During the process the phone might be turned off. Don’t worry it’s not something wrong.
