Update Nokia X with Aurora Vanilla Custom ROM Firmware

Nokia X is indeed a mid range Android based smartphone, but if you are not a picky kind of user, you can learn how to unleash the full potential of your phone. Of course, for being able to do so, first you have to make some general changes on your device. Well, in order to help you out, during the following guidelines I will teach you how to easily tweak your Nokia X. First, I will tell you something about the Aurora Vanilla custom ROM that can customize and optimize your Nokia X, then I will show you how to prepare your device for the update process and finally I will end this tutorial by showing you how to install the new update on your Nokia X.

Aurora Vanilla might just be the perfect custom ROM for your Nokia X. The update is not based on latest Android builts, but let’s face it, your smartphone is not that powerful in order to smoothly run Android KitKat or Lollipop ROMs. So, with Aurora Vanilla your Nokia X will be customized and optimized in the right way; the general performances will be upgraded and with Aurora Vanilla installed, your Nokia X will run better and faster. The batter life will also be improved and the Android experience customized and personalized.

Aurora Vanilla is based on stock Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS but comes with both stock and extra features – that cannot be found of the default Android system. With this firmware flashed, your Nokia X will run without lags and without any other software related issues. According to the users who have already tested this ROM, everything is working without problems; the update has no bugs and the platform can be safely used on a daily basis. But, in order to see that with your own eyes, first you have to complete this step by step guide.

Updating with a custom ROM will not be an official operation. The Vanilla firmware is, as I have already mentioned, only based on stock Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2. This software built is therefore developed by third party devs (we must thank those of xda-developers for this tutorial) and has nothing to do with Google or with Nokia. Moreover, the ROM represents a free aftermarket distribution of Android system and can be installed only manually on your phone.

Because of that, if you choose to complete this guide, you will lose the warranty of your Nokia X. What does this mean? Well, basically if something wrong happens, you will be by yourself – for example, if you brick your phone, taking it back to service will imply in paying for the assistance. So, the best will be to learn how to manually fix a bricked Android device before doing anything else.

Good; now, Aurora Vanilla Android 4.1.2 can be flashed on your Nokia X only if you first root your phone. Ensure root access as this is the only way in which you can unlock and prepare the internal system of your phone for the update process that will shortly follow. After that, you also have to install a custom recovery image on your device. I recommend you to use CWM or TWRP recovery as these are the best custom recovery images to use on your handset (the recovery mode is a must as by using the same you will install the Android update).

A backup is of course more than indicated. By temporarily saving your personal data, info and accounts you can be sure that nothing bag happens. You see, during the update operation, a wipe will be performed which means that you can lose everything that’s important for you. Thus, you shouldn’t go any further without saving your contacts list, call logs, text messages, internet settings, market apps, images, videos, audio files and even the current ROM that runs on your Nokia X – that is an individual backup process, dubbed as the Nandroid backup.

You can complete this tutorial only if a computer can be used. Of course, your Nokia X and your phone’s USB cable must be near you too. Since you will have to connect your smartphone with your computer at some point, now you have to enable USB debugging option on your phone – you can do so from “menu – settings – developer options”. Moreover, from the computer you will use, now you have to temporarily deactivate antivirus and any other security protection – do that because the security tools might interfere with the installation process.

I strongly recommend you to charge your Nokia X before using the steps from below for flashing Aurora Vanilla custom ROM firmware. If your phone has only 50% power left (or less), your device might get turned off in the middle of the update operation. Well, if that happens, your Nokia X might get bricked, so try not to mess things up.

Do note that this tutorial should be completed only for the Nokia X smartphone. The Aurora Vanilla custom ROM firmware which is provided below has been developed only for the mentioned Android smartphone – skip this process in case you have a similar or different phone or tablet.
