The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE has received the first build of CM 12 Nightlies and now you can use this tutorial in order to learn how to successfully install it.

CM 12 Nightlies are based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop AOSP, but you will also find tons of other great features that have been implemented by the CyanogenMod team. Note that since the CM 12 is in its Nightly phase you will find several important features that aren't working. Check the CM blog page here and here in order to learn more.

If you want to install the CM 12 Nightly Android 5.0.2 ROM on your Galaxy S5 LTE you will first need to read the preparation guide below first:

  • use this guide only with the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE smartphone.
    - it should work for all the LTE-capable Galaxy S5 models except for Verizon and AT&T variants.
    - do not install these files on any other devices.
  • your phone has to be rooted and running the latest build of CWM or TWRP custom Recovery.
    - whichever custom Recovery you decide to use has to be updated to its latest version, so that it supports Android 5.x Lollipop operating systems.
  • in the tutorial part of this post you will find two extra preparation steps: the NANDROID Backup and Factory Reset.
    - do not skip those steps.
    - the NANDROID ROM Backup sets a restore point for your phone, one that you can use in case the new CM 12 Nightly ROM is unable to boot in normal mode.
    - the Factory Reset has to be applied in order to remove all the files that have been installed by the previous ROM.
    - Factory Reset wipes only data from the system memory, it won't affect the internal nor external storage of your device.
    - Factory Reset can be skipped only in case your Galaxy S5 device is already sporing CM 11 Nightly or M-Snapshot official builds.
  • in case you want to save data from installed apps, then you should use the Helium tool.
    - Contacts data should be synced with your default Gmail account.
  • read the whole guide, don't skip any steps.
    - also, you should enable the USB Debugging on your device from Developer Options.
  • note that we cannot be held responsible in case you end up losing any data in the process, nor in case you brick your phone.
  • check your phone's battery charge level and make sure that it is over 50%, it will prevent the phone from powering down during the installation process.

Since you've read all of the above you can continue to the next part of the article and learn how to a flash a brand new custom ROM on your smartphone.
