After an extremely long wait, Verizon Wireless has finally started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update for the HTC One M9 smartphones on its network. HTC had rolled out the Nougat update for unlocked One M9 units back in February this year, while T-Mobile rolled out the update a month later. Even AT&T, which is usually quite slow with updates, rolled out the same update in May.

Anyway, the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the HTC One M9 arrives as software version 4.49.605.11 and includes the Android security patch level dated 1 August 2017. Since we are almost nearing the end of September, we would have liked to see the update include the September security patch update instead. According to the Verizon Wireless changelog, the update includes new battery-smart features, multitasking enhancements, the latest Android security updates and bug fixes.

For a superior multitasking experience, the update includes the Split-screen view feature, allowing you to use 2 apps on screen at the same time. Data saver is another new feature that the update brings, restricting specific apps from using data in the background, helping you save data. Navigating through the Settings menu is now easier, as you can quickly hop between various sections by dragging in from the left edge. In order to quickly switch between two most recently used apps, you can now simply double-tap the Recent Apps button. It is now possible to reply directly in notifications from apps like Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, or Messenger directly.

If you haven’t received an update notification on your HTC One M9 yet, make your way to Settings  - System Update – Check for new System update. In case the update is available for your unit, tap on Download Now to begin downloading the update. However, it is recommended that you connect your HTC One M9 to a Wi-Fi network before downloading the update, as it weighs well over 1GB in terms of size. It is also important to make sure your One M9 has more than 50% battery charge remaining before installing the OTA update.
