Vivo has unveiled its latest flagship smartphones in China – X20 and X20 Plus. Both the new smartphones feature a Full View Super AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. As you can see in the image below, the bezels around the display are very thin, resulting in a high screen-to-body ratio.
The Vivo X20 features a 6.01-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution, while the X20 Plus sports a bigger 6.43-inch display with the same Full HD+ resolution. Both phones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 2.2 GHz octa-core chipset with an Adreno 512 GPU. While the Snapdragon 660 is a beast of a mid-range mobile SoC, it does seem out of place in supposed “flagship” smartphones. In terms of memory, the octa-core chip has been paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.
Moving on to the cameras, we have a dual-camera setup on both with a 12MP f/1.8 primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. At the front, the duo features a 12MP selfie camera coupled with an f/2.0 aperture lens. Since there was no room for it on the front panel, Vivo has positioned the fingerprint scanner at the back of the two phones, right above the company logo. In addition to a fingerprint sensor, the Vivo X20 and X20 Plus also come with facial recognition technology. The Face Wake feature, Vivo claims, can unlock the two smartphones in just 0.1 seconds, making it faster than fingerprint sensors, at least on paper.
Vivo has always paid a lot of attention to audio quality on its smartphones and the latest X20 and X20 Plus are no exceptions. The X20 features an AK4376A Hi-Fi audio chip, while the bigger X20 Plus uses an ES9318 DAC. Connectivity features on both include Wi-Fi 802.11ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with GLONASS, and 4G VoLTE. They run on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system out of the box, with Vivo’s Funtouch UI layer on top.
The Vivo X20 and X20 Plus smartphones will go up for pre-order in China on September 25th, while sales will start on September 30. The X20 has been priced at 2998 yuan ($454), while the bigger X20 Plus is priced at 3498 yuan ($530). They will be available in Rose Gold, Gold, and Black color options. Vivo will also be offering the X20A, which is identical to the X20 in terms of core specs but packs 128GB of internal storage.
