Apple is preparing to introduce a new AI-powered battery management feature in iOS 19, according to a report from Bloomberg, which cites sources familiar with the company’s plans. The tool is expected to optimize power consumption based on user behavior, ultimately extending battery life on iPhones.
The feature will analyze usage patterns and battery data to determine when it can reduce the energy consumption of specific apps and system functions. Additionally, a new lock screen indicator may display the estimated time remaining until the device is fully charged.
Importantly, the battery management system won’t be limited to the upcoming iPhone 17 expected this fall—it will be rolled out across all iPhones compatible with iOS 19. Apple is expected to unveil the update at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, with a public release planned for September. The company declined to comment on the new features when contacted by Bloomberg.
Possible Price Increases for Next iPhone Lineup
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Apple is also considering price increases for its next iPhone lineup, set to launch in the fall. These potential hikes would be linked to new features and design upgrades intended to justify the additional cost for consumers.
Apple appears to be positioning the changes in a way that distances them from potential U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports. The majority of Apple’s hardware is assembled in China, and the company may be seeking to avoid perceptions that price increases are driven by geopolitical factors.
Also on Monday, President Donald Trump announced that he had spoken with Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding further investments in the United States. This discussion reportedly went beyond the $500 billion investment Apple had previously committed to in February. Following the meeting, Trump remarked that Cook “will be building a lot of factories in the U.S. for Apple.”
